Builder Spotlight: Zeroone is Rethinking How NFT Enjoyers Create and Collect
Recently, Ludovica Rosi and her co-founders launched the NFT platform zeroone in the throes of an NFT bear market. The platform took off almost immediately.
It quickly grew into a giant on the Avalanche C-Chain. In the first month, zeroone saw a quarter million mints, 150k transactions, and nearly 3,000 collections. Tellingly, more than 50% of the NFTs minted on the platform during this period have been purchased.
But zeroone isn’t even an NFT marketplace. Ludovica calls it a “cultural distribution engine.”
The platform strives to make the user experience direct and intuitive. You can build a wallet with your email address (or use an existing Web3 wallet). You can build a contract in one click. You can customize your own royalties, then mint in another click. Collecting only takes one step – and costs users nothing, as zeroone covers even Avalanche’s low transaction fees. Minting is also free.
“The idea is that we abstract away all the crypto features and technology,” Ludovica said. “We present a very straightforward platform that allows everybody to join the movement. We want to be that onboarding tool from Web2 to Web3.”
Zeroone goes further, designing features to prioritize creators and art enjoyers over traders. For instance, users must mint their own art or content before collecting pieces made by another person. “You are forced to give before getting,” Ludovica said.
Ludovica was born in Rome and works from Singapore. Like her zeroone co-founders, Colborn Bell and Phil Backus, she has been involved with the Museum of Crypto Art. She is driven by a lifelong passion for art and makes her own photography NFTs. She’s a self-taught artist, one who believes new generations of creators want more independence and control of their work.
Her “cultural distribution engine” attempts to give artists more agency, and uniquely within the NFT world by “blurring the line between creators and collectors.”
With its artist-and-collector-first approach and smooth UX, zeroone amassed nearly 3,000 collections and 4,100+ active users in that first explosive month.
But before these early successes, before minting her first zeroone NFT, and before even starting to build the platform, Ludovica’s team had only an idea, a dream, and a business need to assess the blockchain landscape. They had to choose a chain.
Their analysis led them to a clear conclusion, Ludovica said. “Avalanche is probably the only tech we can use to build this product.”
Ludovica sees Avalanche as the most forward-thinking blockchain, and Ava Labs as an entity pushing the envelope. “I see Avalanche as the only chain investing in cutting-edge technologies and risking stepping into something very new,” she said. “They’ve chosen culture because they’ve seen that culture is an accelerator of technology, and that technology is an accelerator of culture.”
In particular, she believes Avaissance, the pioneering digital art program from the Avalanche Foundation, “has been incredible.”
Next, zeroone plans to double down and move to an Avalanche Subnet.
This move would position the team to appeal even more to the everyday Web2 user, unlocking even more ambitious growth trajectories, Ludovica said. “Subnets will reduce our cost per transaction, allowing us to scale much more.”
