Between the Sessions: What to Do and See at Avalanche Summit LATAM
There’s a lot going on at Avalanche Summit LATAM. We guarantee you won't be bored with hundreds of speakers to learn from and dozens of workshops and panels to attend.
But we also know that your brain can only take in so much new information at a time. Eventually, you’re going to need to recharge, either after hours or in between sessions.
Fortunately, you’re in Buenos Aires—a city bursting at the seams with beautiful art, amazing music, gorgeous public spaces and mountains of delicious food.
If that’s not enough, we also have perks on site that can help you refresh and recharge.
Consider this your official unofficial guide to recreation at Avalanche Summit LATAM.
Groove to the Music
Over the Summit dates there are dozens of concerts in Buenos Aires, from local and regional heroes to global touring acts. Songkick has a list of the big acts here.
Looking for a more authentic experience? There are great options not far from the Summit venue, Ciudad Cultural Konex. El Boliche de Roberto hosts tango music starting at midnight on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. La Catedral Club is another great spot to take in some tango.
If you’re too tired to tango, Virasoro Bar is a jazz club with an intimate setting and white-hot jazz music most nights.
And of course, you can’t miss Afters9000, the official Summit LATAM afterparty. It starts Friday, October 19th at 9pm. We’ve got a lineup of amazing acts to keep you rocking well into the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Explore the City
Buenos Aires is a cultural melting pot; its architecture and culture reflect its long history. As you explore, you’ll see traces of indigenous, Spanish, and even British history.
Try visiting the scenic Palermo neighborhood, which boasts the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires, the Carlos Thays Botanical Garden, and plenty of shops and restaurants. There are public transportation options to get you there, and sight-seeing is free.
If the bright lights and chic boutiques aren’t your thing, the San Telmo neighborhood might be. It has the feel of a small town in the heart of the city. You’ll find coffee shops, antique stores, and amazing architecture. Look for the Plaza Dorrego, where professional tango dancers perform, and El Museo, which features a façade designed by Gustave Eiffel (yes, THAT Eiffel).
Those with an eye for history should make sure to visit the Plaza de Mayo. This is the spot where Argentina’s May's revolution took place, and the first national government was established. At the eastern edge, you’ll see the Casa Rosada, the president of the Argentine Republic's official workplace.
Finally, check out the Rose Garden Walk in the Forests of Palermo neighborhood. It’s a free public park with rose bushes, statuary and a lake where you can rent paddleboats or just watch the wildlife.
Relax at the Venue
If you don’t feel up to exploring, don’t worry; there’s plenty to do and see right where the action is. Daily entertainment will be in the central yard, including circus performers, magicians and athletes. We’re also featuring happy hours from 4-6 on the first two days, with professional DJs and drinks for all.
In the Hall of Columns, you’ll find a ton of interactive fun. Check out the NFT Gallery, try your luck at the merchandise claw machine, play a pick-up game of foosball, and get your picture taken at Instagram-worthy photo stations. Or snag a seat in the gaming nook and play PC games with your fellow developers.
And don’t miss the immersive experiences in the Container Room. Get inspired by interactive art with a purpose from social media sensation WATERJOURNEY. You can also watch digital artists create new pieces live in our digital art installation.
Many of our partners and sponsors are throwing their own side events throughout the weekend: Check out the Official Side Event Calendar for details.
And don’t forget to take care of your own well-being—it’s easy to let self-care slide when you’re in the middle of a hackathon or soaking up knowledge from our speaker lineup. The Wellness Area features places to relax, calm your senses, and even enjoy a massage.
Get Involved with the Community
At the heart of it, Avalanche is about community. So, we’ve created spaces and events that will help you get to know your fellow developers, find collaborators, and show off your skills. You can join the Avalanche Is for Builders Pitch Competition to meet your perfect co-founder, pitch your business idea, and cheer on the teams competing in the Avalanche Hackathon.
We’re excited to meet the developers who will make Avalanche9000 an amazing place to build. See you in Buenos Aires!
